Just a list this week
Recommendations for Grex's spoons, Lou Wall's bed frame, and Priyanka Mattoo's survival techniques.
In a perfect summary of how my life/the world are going right now, I genuinely lost track of which day of the week it was and scrambled last minute to put this together. I’m in over my head and the wheels are coming off the wagon, but I still have a few recommendations for you. Next week, I’ll actually have an intro essay for you. Thanks for bearing with me in the meantime…
My projects and upcoming events:
LIVE IN LA: Wrong Answers Only - Dynasty Typewriter on Tuesday, May 20th at 7:30 p.m. Join me and a panel of celebrity comedians as we learn all about the wild parrots of Los Angeles. Get your tickets now (also available for livestream if you live outside LA or just don’t like leaving your house).
This week’s list
GREAT:
My friend Greg Hochmuth is an extremely talented artist and engineer. He’s always taking on fascinating side projects and pursuing his passions, including a time when he got obsessed with the ice cream spoons from one restaurant that are so perfect that people routinely steal them. (The restaurant once had to declare a day of amnesty in order to get their spoon supply returned.) Greg decided to make a replica of the spoons for himself and friends, which led to an international cutlery quest. It’s a delight of a story. Ice Cream Spoooooons: a story about plastic joy
FUNNY:
You simply have to watch this video of comedian Lou Wall singing a song about their experience trying to give away a bed frame on Facebook Marketplace for free. Trust me, it’s incredible. I’m so glad that in this week where I couldn’t manage to scrape together an intro essay, I get to give you this recommendation. Lou Wall - FB Bed
INTERESTING:
Priyanka Mattoo’s essay on navigating life in this chaotic time has been making the rounds and for good reason. It’s beautiful and helpful and applies equally to comets hitting the Earth as to whatever other apocalypse you’re worried about. Wake up to Your Life, Babe. re: handling the news
